How Knovli Mastery Works: Flashcards, Quizzes, and Progress That Sticks

Learn how Knovli Mastery uses flashcards, cumulative quizzes, and weak-term repetition to build real retention — session after session.

What Is Knovli Mastery?

Knovli Mastery is the built-in progress system that turns a deck of flashcards into a structured study loop. Instead of flipping cards at random, Mastery tracks what you know, surfaces what you don't, and gives you clear feedback after every session — so each time you sit down to study, you're spending your time on the material that actually needs work.

How a Mastery Session Works

Every Mastery session follows the same two-step loop:

  • Flashcards first. You work through the deck card by card. Mark a card as known and it counts toward your progress. Mark it as unknown and Mastery flags it as a weak term.
  • Cumulative quiz second. After the flashcards, you take a multiple-choice quiz that covers the full deck — not just the cards from that session. Every quiz answer, right or wrong, feeds into your Mastery score.

When the session ends, you get immediate feedback: which terms you've locked in, which are still shaky, and where your overall Mastery stands.

How Weak Terms Are Handled

Any card you mark unknown during flashcards — or answer incorrectly on the quiz — becomes a weak term. Mastery automatically shows weak terms more often in future sessions. You don't have to hunt for your problem areas; the system keeps bringing them back until you get them right consistently.

This is the core of spaced repetition: easy terms fade into the background, hard terms stay in rotation. Over time your weak-term list shrinks and your Mastery score climbs.

Progress Carries Over Between Sessions

Your Mastery score doesn't reset when you close the browser. Every session builds on the last, so a student who studies a 50-card deck across three nights is picking up exactly where they left off each time — weak terms included. If you ever want a clean start, you can reset Mastery manually and begin the loop from scratch.

Teacher-Assigned Mastery

Teachers can assign Mastery to their students. When a deck is assigned, every Mastery session becomes a graded assignment with a completion requirement. Students still see their own feedback and weak-term tracking — the assignment layer just adds accountability and gives teachers visibility into class-wide progress.

Try Mastery on a Real Deck

The best way to understand how Mastery works is to run a session yourself. A shorter deck is a good starting point — you'll move through the flashcard and quiz phases quickly and see the feedback loop in action. Here are a few to try:
