Terms of Service
Welcome to Knovli by Harborframe Labs LLC ("Harborframe Labs LLC," "we," "our," or "us"), an educational learning platform designed to help students, educators, and curious minds explore and deepen their knowledge.
By downloading, accessing, or using Knovli or any related services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.
1. Eligibility & Age Restrictions
- The Service is intended for users aged 13 and older.
- Knovli is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in compliance with COPPA.
- Users under 18 should review these Terms with a parent or guardian before using the Service.
- If we discover that a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete that account and its associated data promptly. Parents may contact us at support@harborframelabs.com to request review or deletion of their child's data.
2. Educational Purpose
Knovli is designed to support:
- Independent learning and knowledge exploration
- Academic enrichment and exam preparation
- Student and educator engagement with educational content
- Classroom and self-directed study activities
We do not guarantee any specific academic outcomes resulting from use of the Service.
3. School Use & Student Data
When Knovli is used by a K–12 educational institution under a written Data Privacy Agreement:
- When designated by the school as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA (34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1)(i)(B)), Knovli is bound by FERPA's restrictions on the use and re-disclosure of student education records.
- Student data is used solely for educational purposes authorized by the school.
- Student data ownership remains with the school or district.
- We do not sell student personal information.
- We do not use student data for targeted or behavioral advertising.
- We do not create non-educational profiles of students.
- Schools may request a Data Privacy Agreement, including SDPC National DPA-style templates and state-specific supplements (e.g., NY Ed Law § 2-d Parents' Bill of Rights), by contacting us at support@harborframelabs.com.
Where required by state student privacy laws — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Illinois, and New York student data protection statutes — we comply with applicable restrictions.

4. Accounts & Security
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to keep it up to date.
- Notify us immediately at support@harborframelabs.com if you believe your account has been compromised or accessed without authorization.
- You may not share your account with others or allow unauthorized users to access the Service through your credentials.
5. Acceptable Use
You may not use the Service to:
- Upload or share content that is false, misleading, offensive, hateful, defamatory, or unlawful
- Manipulate scoring, ranking, or progress systems
- Impersonate another person or entity, or provide false registration information
- Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or otherwise attempt to extract source code or proprietary data from the Service
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access or interact with the Service
- Harass, bully, or harm other users
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service's servers, networks, or security measures
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose not expressly authorized by us
- Engage in any conduct that violates applicable law, including laws protecting user privacy (COPPA and applicable state privacy statutes)
6. Intellectual Property
All software, design, branding, educational content created by us, and original materials comprising the Service are the property of Harborframe Labs LLC and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
- You retain ownership of any original content you create or upload through the Service.
- By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your content solely to provide you with the Service's features.
- A limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license is granted to you solely to use the Service for personal, non-commercial educational purposes, consistent with these Terms.
- You may not copy, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our express written permission.
7. Copyright Complaints
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect users of Knovli to do the same. If you believe that content available through the Service infringes your copyright, you may send a written notice to our designated copyright agent at the address below.
Your notice should include:
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
- A description of where the allegedly infringing content appears in the Service
- Your contact information (name, address, phone number, and email)
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature

When we receive a valid notice, we will remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content promptly. We also have a policy of closing the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe the copyrights of others.
8. Advertising
Knovli may be supported in part by third-party advertising services.
- We do not use student data for targeted or behavioral advertising.
- For users under 13, or where required by applicable law, we request that advertising partners serve only non-personalized, contextual ads.
- Third-party advertisers operate under their own privacy policies.

9. Privacy
Use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes in detail what data we and our sub-processors collect, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that data — including rights under COPPA, FERPA, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and applicable state privacy laws.

10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for violations of these Terms, conduct we determine is harmful to other users or the Service, or any other reason at our sole discretion.
- You may delete your account at any time through the app settings or by contacting support@harborframelabs.com.
- Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers of warranties, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will continue to apply.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all express, implied, and statutory warranties, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time
- Educational content or learning recommendations will be accurate, complete, or suitable for your individual needs
- Progress data, learning history, or records will be preserved indefinitely or free from data loss
- The Service will meet your educational goals or produce any particular academic result
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Harborframe Labs LLC and its officers, employees, agents, and partners shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of learning data, progress records, or content
- Service interruptions, data corruption, or loss of access
- Any harm arising from reliance on educational content provided through the Service
- Any academic or professional outcome resulting from use of or reliance on the Service
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) fifty U.S. dollars ($50.00).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Harborframe Labs LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any applicable law; or (d) content you submit to the Service.
14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered under the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) in Sacramento, California, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court.
Class Action Waiver: You and Harborframe Labs LLC each waive the right to bring or participate in any class action, class arbitration, or representative proceeding. All disputes must be brought in your individual capacity only.
To attempt informal resolution before arbitration, contact us at support@harborframelabs.com with a description of your dispute. We will try to resolve it within 30 days.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms periodically to reflect changes in the Service, applicable law, or our practices. We will post the updated Terms within the Service and indicate the effective date. Continued use of Knovli after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification or email).
