Knovli and Kahoot: live games, and what happens after
Kahoot made the live classroom quiz famous: a host, a code, and a room full of people answering at once. Knovli has that mode too, and wraps it in the studying that happens before and after the game.
At a glance
We have described Kahoot as fairly as we can from what it says about itself, but products change and we may be out of date. For anything that matters to your decision — especially price — check kahoot.com directly.
| Knovli | Kahoot | |
|---|---|---|
| Built around | Flashcard decks you study, then play | Live quiz games hosted for a group |
| Live classroom game | Group Play: a host, a join code, everyone answers together | Its core product |
| Studying alone | Eight study modes and a plan that gets a deck learned by a date | Some self-paced options alongside the live games |
| One set of content | The same deck drives flashcards, study modes and games | Quizzes are written as quizzes |
| After the game | Results feed each student’s own progress and the class gradebook | Game reports |
| Playing without a host | 1vWorld, 1v1 challenges and a Daily Quiz | Mostly hosted or assigned games |
Where Knovli is different
The game is not the end. A Group Play round uses the same deck the class has been studying, so what a student gets wrong in the game is what their next lesson brings back.
One deck, many uses. Write the terms once. Students can flip them as flashcards, work through a mastery plan, and play them — you do not write a separate quiz.
Play that does not need a room. 1vWorld and 1v1 let a student play for a few minutes on their own time, and it all counts towards the same progress.
Where Kahoot may suit you better
If what you want is a polished live game for an event, a staff meeting or a one-off lesson, with a huge bank of ready-made quizzes, Kahoot does that very well and is what many people already know. Knovli’s live mode is built for a class that also studies the material between games.
For teachers deciding
Ask what you want students to do on the days there is no game. If the answer is “learn the unit’s vocabulary by Friday”, Knovli’s classes, assignments and goals are built for that, and the game is the reward at the end of the week.
